Geese Flying Everywhere

I have put the Jinny Beyer quilt on hold (again) .... can't seem to sort out where the problem is and not much patience with it at the moment so have dragged out another UFO to get stuck into.

This time I can't blame someone else if the pattern is wrong because it is mine .... lol.

I have always like bright colours on black and also like Flying Geese so I figured I would combine the two. I used EQ (5) to design a quilt that used the colours of the rainbow with gradient shades of each colour in strips.

When I designed the quilt was block was only 4 x 10 but changed my mind (girl's prerogative) and made then 6 x 15. Will probably only have one row of each colour now with the larger size; just have to look at how it sits.

I have put one block of each colour together and am pleased with how it looks. Sadly the colours do not photograph as well as real life but at least you get the general idea; they are more vibrant and alive.

The only block I wasn't able to finish was the indigo one. I need one more FQ in a deep indigo to finish the 5 colours and have had trouble finding one deep enough to complete the set.

I have also completed the top of the cot quilt for my new grandson due in early March. I just have to do the quilting and binding then will post a picture for you. It is in beiges and creams and has appliqued sheep, moons, cows and stars on it. I am happy with how it turned out.

Aaarrrrrggghhhhh!!!

Decided to start one of my big UFO's - Jinny Beyer's Round the World - king sized quilt.

I have made a lot of the components and now getting organised to start sewing them together. Put one set together to make two small blocks and then joined them together to make a large section which didn't really go together as easily as it should - in fact I needed to do some fancy sewing to get it right.

So went on to look at the block components and found that one of them is out - checked the original templates that came with the pattern to make sure I had copied them right and I had. Did some calculations (I am no mathematician) and it seemed like it was wrong. Checked the website but nothing on there - so whether it is my mistake somewhere along the way or not I have no idea but I do need to fix it.

Now I need to go back and see if I can fix them - think I will have to re-cut that one part which fortunately is just a plain rhombus.

The other blocks seem okay but if I can't solve this it will throw everything else out.

Still have the Mariner's Compass block at the centre and the small compass parts on each corner of the quilt
to tackle and dreading that after this problem .... lol. Never made a Mariner's Compass before and have always wanted to try one. Also would like to try a New York Beauty block but think I will wait until I have this all under control .... rotfl!!

Decided to take a leaf out of Lindi's blogs and make a dedicated artworks blog. If anyone is interested it is called Sooziii's Art Work (er um - very original title....lol)

Brag Time Again - Oh Yes and another painting started....lol

Yes, it is time for a couple of Nanny brag photos - lol.

These were taken on New Year's eve of the beautiful Abi.

The photo on the right you can see a glimpse of her daddy and her pretty little cousin, R.

She will be 4 months in two days time and for the last 2 weeks she has been trying to stand when you hold her. She is very strong in her legs and is desperately trying to talk, she babbles all day and is a very happy little girl.

She now has a contact lens in her blind eye - it stays in for a week then has to be removed and a new one put in. There is some interest by a few of her specialists that there may be some sight in the eye - that she may be able to see dark and light so the idea is to put the lens in and monitor the eye after a few months with it. We all are just going with the fact she is blind in that eye and then if by some miracle she does get some sort of use with it we will get excited then.

Still no word on the test regarding the reflux from the bladder to the duplex left kidney, don't see the doc until later this month, we do know there is reflux as they told M at the test but what it means we just don't know.

Meanwhile, on the painting front I have spent the last three days working on a new face - not 100% happy with where it is going but it is a learning experience for me. I have to remind myself that this is only the 7th face I have done so I cannot expect it to work perfectly and in reality all those mistakes mean I learn to either accept and work around them or how to deal with them and integrate them.

Happy New Year and a Bit More Work Done

Let me take this time to wish all my blogger friends around the world a magical New Year - I hope 2010 brings forth all the joy, laughter, happiness and wonder you could wish for.

Meanwhile, did some more work on you-know-who (lol) and thought I would ask for more comments; he is getting the worn look I wanted to achieve; I want him to have a slighly bored/arrogant look but that underlying acceptance and weariness of his lot; sort of hunched in on himself.

I am putting him aside for a week or so and start something new then I will look at him with a fresher view.

Comments Please...

Working on another face - lol - seem a bit addicted at the moment!

This time it is a much younger person than I have been doing but he is a 'street' fellow and so has a lot of character, apathy and pain in his eyes. He is very dirty, scruffy and scabby but he still seems to me to have a kind of haughty arrogant power.

Tell me what you think - bear in mind that there is still a lot of painting to be done on him but just looking for general thoughts as this portrait thing is so very new to me - this is only my 6th one.

PS - Added a bit more to him so you have two pics now....rotfl

Nanny's Brag Time....lol.

Now honestly what else can a grandma do but brag...?

My sweet little granddaughter is 3 months old already.

My turn to babysit today and we had fun laughing and playing, till it became all too much and she fell asleep.

Bit awkward trying to take a photo and hold a baby at the same time but I managed it...lol.

Had to do a little photoshop work on her blind eye as it comes out transparent red but if that is the only problem she has in her life then her life will be wonderful.

It is a wonderful feeling - her lying in my arms so trusting and safe.

Christmas Baking Day

Tuesday I finally got around to making my Christmas cakes - I know, its very late for me but I have had other things on my mind lately.

Still better than last year. Remember last year? Broken arm so no cakes! LOL

Anyway, I have had the fruits and the nuts soaking in brandy for the past week so Tuesday I tackled the cooking process. Here is one of the big containers of mixed ingredients ready to put into tins.

I have perfected my recipe over the years to the point where it is now sought after. I know people who get one tend to gloat to those that don't ... lol..... not sure if it is the taste of the cake or the taste of the plonk in them!

This one shows some of them waiting patiently to be decorated before heading into the oven.

Here is a bench full of cakes from the oven waiting to be unwrapped from their baking paper and then wrapped in alfoil.

I pour more alcohol on each cake once it is cool then wrap it in alfoil, then each week until they are given away or eaten they get another slurp of grog to make them happy.....rotfl.

I make them in all shapes and sizes depending on who they are for but one thing they all have in common - they are well soaked in alcohol - brandy to soak in prior to cooking (a bottle full) and then port poured over them weekly.
I wonder if that is the reasons everyone wants one for Christmas ...... ROTFL!!!
